Guest Hymn Reflection
Day by Day
Learning to Trust God with Tomorrow

Scripture: “As thy days, so shall thy strength be.” — Deuteronomy 33:25 (KJV)
Learning to Trust God with Tomorrow
The hymn Day by Day, and with Each Passing Moment has a special meaning for me. It reminds me of God’s faithfulness throughout every season of my life. Life is not always easy, but I am reminded that I never walk it alone.
Since the passing of my husband, I have sometimes worried about tomorrow and wondered how I will manage the challenges ahead. The hymn gently calls me back to the grace God gives for each day, rather than demanding that I solve every difficulty before it arrives.
“As thy days, thy strength shall be in measure.”
This promise is close to my heart. Whatever trials come, I do not have to face them alone. For every burden there is sustaining grace; for every difficult day, strength from above.
The final stanza is especially powerful for me. It speaks of asking the Lord for help amid toil and trouble and of taking the fleeting days and moments one by one. That is a lesson in surrender I must learn anew each day.
When I face challenges, I often want to fix things myself. I want to know how everything will turn out, and I want an answer immediately. But God invites me to trust Him one day at a time, knowing that my life rests in His loving and faithful hands.
About the Hymn
The original Swedish hymn was written by Lina Sandell, with a familiar English rendering by Andrew L. Skoog. The tune is associated with Oscar Ahnfelt. Its message is one of daily dependence, not a promise that the road will always be easy.
Prayer
Lord, teach me to trust You day by day and with each fleeting moment of my life. Amen.
A Thought to Carry
We are not asked to carry tomorrow’s entire weight today. Faith can begin with the next moment entrusted to God.
