Scripture: “Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.” — 1 Peter 5:7 (KJV)

The Voice That God Carried

Reneld Hyppolite came from Haiti to Guyana with little English but with a remarkable gift for singing. In the fellowship of the Ephesus congregation, particularly during Pastor Kirk Thomas’s ministry, his voice became part of an energetic season of worship and witness. He was more than a fellow chorister and song leader: he became a dear friend and a brother to our family. My mother welcomed him with such affection that he was virtually another son.

Sometimes the language of faith reaches beyond the language we speak. Reneld found a place to belong through music, and the congregation found in him a voice that enriched its praise.

When the Singer Had to Live the Song

For Reneld, “God Will Take Care of You” became more than a hymn in his repertoire. It became the language of a difficult decision. With six children to support, he worked his regular job and drove Uber to supplement the family income. His wife was teaching middle school. Yet even their combined efforts were insufficient, and the work that helped him provide for his family was taking away precious time with them.

He decided to leave his job, return to school and drive Uber only on Sundays. For two years, he and his wife faced the uncertainty of meeting their household needs while he pursued his education.

“My testimony is not that I had everything figured out. My testimony is that I did not have everything figured out, but I trusted God anyway.” — Reneld Hyppolite

Reneld does not present this choice as an easy formula. He remembers the questions: How would the bills be paid? How could he finish school? How would his family manage? He could not see the whole picture, but he prayed, worked and entrusted the outcome to God.

He completed his studies, graduated, and found a better job that enabled him to provide for his family. Looking back, his testimony is emphatic: “God did it!”

That does not mean faith removes difficulty or guarantees that every decision will end as we hope. Reneld’s story is a witness to perseverance, practical effort and trust through a season whose outcome he could not predict.

About the Hymn

“God Will Take Care of You” was written by Civilla D. Martin, with music by Walter Stillman Martin, in the early twentieth century. Its central assurance resonates with the invitation of 1 Peter 5:7 to place our cares in God’s hands.

A Thought to Carry

You do not have to know how everything will work out before you can take the next faithful step. Reneld’s journey invites us to bring our responsibilities honestly before God, to do what lies within our power, and to walk forward with hope.
